Yashwantrao Chavan Wildlife Sanctuary popularly known as the Sagareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary is a man made sanctuary principally due to the efforts of one sh. D. M. Mohite. The sanctuary notified in 1985, is situated in the Sangali district, about 25 kmfrom city of Sangli; th e10 sq.km wildlife sanctuary offers an excellent bird eye view of the meandering River Krishna. The small yet important protected area was initially host to the principal species Sambhar, Chital and Black Buck, which had multiplied to a great extent. Other animals seen in the area are Fox, Porcupines, host of Butterflies, Birds. The area is a frequently visited area by the adjoining school children who quench their thirst for knowledge in the information centre and short rides in the sanctuary.
